    AC A353C air filter element

    Members,
While restoring the air cleaner assembly on my '65 250HP, I found that the original foam/metal screen element has been replaced with the paper element shown on subject line.

Question: Was this element originally a replacement for the original foam or was it from another application? I like the paper element and would like to purchase a couple of new ones if possible.

Anyone know of a source for old AC paper air filter elements?

    Thanks,
    Gene

Re: AC A353C air filter element

    Gene----

The AC A353C has a few other applications, but not very many. At the time that it replaced the original 63-66 A-163C A/C element in November, 1968, it was already in use for a few other applications.

The A353C is still available from Delco dealers under that part number. It's also available from GM dealers under GM #6484339. It's very unlikely that your Delco or GM dealer will stock this item, so you'll have to buy a case lot of 6 at a time. I think that Dr. Rebuild carries this item so you can purchase quantities of less than 6 from them and, perhaps, other Corvette parts sources.

The Doc also lists the original foam and wire support element.

          John,
I will probably buy an original foam element and screen combination for judging purposes and a couple of paper elements to drive around. I hate the oiled foam elements and the mess associated with them.

          Regards,
          Gene

Need (fine) Foam Element w/A165C emboss

Don't know whether the good Doctor reproduces the original features of # 6418399, but other repro's I've seen are COARSE cell foam and w/NO emboss.

Finally decided to switch to the paper element A165C, as my original-type foam [bought New-In-Box from an ad in Vette Vues in the early '80's] now turns to dust when touched.
