    C1 master cylinder

My 56 has a replacement Wagner Master cylinder that I'm replacing. I believe the 58-62 master cyl # is 6456022 but not sure on the 56/57. I have a 6450233 unit- do I have the correct number? Thanks, joe

Thanks for checking Donald. I rechecked the casting # on the unit I have and it starts with a 6, not a 5. I wonder what it application was?

Joe, If you'll post the PART NUMBER, I may be able to find the original application for you if it makes a difference. The part number is stamped in the plug on the forward end of the master cylinder. The casting was used for several different applications (notably Buicks) so the casting number alone will not tell the whole story. If you are attempting to replace it with an original, use the stamped part number in combination with the casting number to determine if it's the correct part. Bernie Myers

Benard, The part number is 5454350 on top and 320 under.
          Thanks, Joe

Joe, It started life on a 1954 or 1955 Buick with manual brakes. There is likely a casting date on it (L/H outboard toward front) that will give a good indication of which model year.

Thanks for the help. The unit is dated 1955. I need to replace the Wagner I have, so I'll go ahead and use the Buick since it's been rebuilt, until I can latch on the correct one at a fair price. Joe
