Flight Deductions - Question for the Judges

I recently had my car judged at an NCRS meet. I went over the judging sheets today and noticed that in the Interior section I was hit for point dections under BODY JAMBS and DOOR JAMBS & LATCHES for GLOSS FINISH of the paint. Under BODY PAINT on the Exterior section I was hit again for GLOSS in Door Jambs. Is this correct? It would seem I am getting gigged twice for the same issue.

The car did very well overall and received a Top Flight.

    Thanks for any comments.

Sounds like you got the shaft.Did i judge it? Seriously, mistakes do happen. experienced owners thoroughly review the sheets as the car is being judged.had you done it and brought it to the attention of the team leader, the mistake would have been caught and corrected but once the sheets go to tab., its nearly if not impossible to change the score. Try a light rubbing comp on the jambs before next judging event. good luck, mike

The interior judging team should judge the jams, the exterior judges often look at the jams in particular if the car appears to have a clear top coat, the edges of the exterior panel will often prove or disprove the use of a clear top coat, but the exterior team should take no points for the jams. The exterior team in theory should be able to judge the car with it entirely closed and no owner present except for headlamps and windshield wipers in some years.

I would think a mistake was made by your exterior judging team, fortunately it did not have any adverse effect on your overall score and your award level did not suffer.

Thanks for the reply and the education. It was my first flight judging and I will be better prepared the next time around. There are a number of items that the judges picked up to keep me busy over the winter.

Overall I think the judging was more than fair and I am obviously quite pleased with the results.

I had this very same thing happen to me, live and learn, and more important, make sure you review the judging sheets line by line when presented to you. Don't let anyone rush you into accepting the results and press you to sign until you are satified. As earlier mentioned, once it is signed off by you, it is nearly impossible to reverse. Since your car TF'ed anyway, this may be a moot point.

          Enjoy your car,
          Gregg

It might be worth verifying with the judges

in question whether the points deducted by the exterior team were actually (and therefore erroneously) made for the appearance of the jambs, or whether all the points were deducted for other exterior features, and a simple notation was made in the comments field about the jambs.

It is common for judges to make comments without deducting points.

Flight Deductions - Question for the Judges

                Mike,

In this instance the deductions were added into the total in each section to makeup the the grand total. I did have some comments on other items and no deduction was taken. I am showing this car as a first timer and am learning as I go along. I was very pleased with the judging and the results. I thought I was treated very well and found the whole exercise very informative. I would assume that with some judges I might have incurred deuctions for those items that were simply commented on by this set of judges. It is all part of the subjective nature that is part of the process.

The car has achieved a Gold Spinner and the recent Top Flight during the past year. At both events there were items discovered and a lot of knowledge transferred. For me it was a very positive experience on both occasions.

                  Chris,
Sounds like it's a "win-win" situation. Be happy, make constructive comments and we all continue to learn.

Your point has been well made, and, well, and taken well. Deep, deep, subject! Now, about that oringinal radiator cap with the very small ears...:)

Terry, I just love how you plug our Driveline at every available chance you get.
Keep up the great work you have been doing there. I love ya!!!!!

                    cheers

                      Plugs *TL*

                      Greg,
Usually I plug The Restorer, but sometimes I mention The Driveline.
Why don't you do a story for The Restorer about those 1973 radiator caps with the little ears? Then you could bring the story to the meet to show the judges.

                        Re: Plugs

You got me again!:) But, I really do like how you plug both The Restorer, and The Driveline. It only makes sense, that a lot of the info being sought here on the board is sitting right in front of the individule. If they would just take the time to read it.

I myself am recentlly guilty of this. So, keep plugging away.

                        respectfully,
                        Gregg
