    DUAL FOURS

MY 61 CAME WITH THE ORIGINAL 245 HP DUAL WCFBS IN THE TRUNK, SO WHEN I RESTORED MY CAR I PUT ON A 62 SINGLE FOUR WCFB INTAKE AND CARB ON THE REBUILT ORIGINAL 283. I DROVE THE CAR LIKE THIS FOR TWO YEARS NEVER HAVING ANY PROBLEM OR OVER HEATING. I DECIDED TO PUT THE 2 FOURS BACK ON SO I REBUILT THEM WITH NEW METERING RODS AS I FOUND TWO BENT. THE CARBS LOOKED IN VERY GOOD CONDITION AS DID THE ORIGINAL INTAKE. SINCE INSTALLING THEM THE IDLE IS ERATIC, CAR DOES NOT OVER HEAT BUT WHEN IT GETS HOT AND IT GETS HOT ESPECIALLY BETWEEN THE TWO CARBS ITS WORST. IT BACK FIRES, BOGS DOWN AND A NON-PERFORMER. DOES NOT SEEM TO MATTER WHERE IS CHOKE IS SET ITS ALWAYS TO FAST ON START UP. ALWAYS SEEMS TO RICH NO MATTER HOW THE IDLE SCREWS ARE SET. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

    Re: DUAL FOURS

I have a 56 that I bought as a basket case. I rebuilt the engine, traded carbs to get matching 56 carbs and manifold. When I was done, the carbs had all sorts of problems. I set the floats and checked everything that I could with the information that I had. I took the carbs to two local shops that claimed to know everything there is about the carbs. They could not find anything wrong with them.

I called Bob Kunz in St. Louis but he was very busy. He suggested that I talk to Chuck Smith in Calabasis, CA. I talked to Chuck and brought my carbs to him. He spent 1.5 hours taking my carbs apart, throwing away most of the inner parts, replacing them with the right parts, and re-assembling the carbs.

I put them on my car and it ran GREAT!

The reason that I am tell this long story is that if you are not VERY familiar with these carbs, send them to someone that is! If you don't, you will have headaches until you do. I rebuilt everything else on my car except the Powerglide transmission. I would do the Powerglide myself it I was going to do another car. I would still take the carbs to someone else that knows what they are doing.

    thats my $.02 on carbs.

Sounds like you used a to thin meter rods. Mike the old rods and compare them to the new ones.

ROY THE CARBS HAD NO METERING RODS OR JETS SO I ORDERED A SET FOR BOTH CARDS FROM DANCHUK. I PUT THE LARGED HOLE JETS WITH THE RODS IN THE FRONT OF THE CARB AND THE SMALL HOLE ONES WITHOUT THE RODS IN THE REAR. WAS THIS CORRECT? I COULD NOT FIND ANY GUIDANCE ON WHAT WENT WHERE.
