    C1 Transmission replacement

My old T10 B/W is finished. Whats with the new Richamond Gear T-10 4-speed trans? Can anyone suggest a replacement transmission that they have luck with?
    Leaning toward new. Thanks

What's wrong with a rebuild on the old T-10?

      T-10 repair...

As long as the case isn't broken, it should be possible to get your T-10 working like new (or better). I have seen replacement synchro assemblies which are specially designed to stop the T-10 from popping out of gear.

I've heard all the diffrent opinions-been told my T-10 has probably been rebuilt a few times and is just plain tired. ( or screwed up from the start) Bill- I'm just tired of screwing around with it. I want to go new with this Richmond Gear T-10 4-speed. What do you think? appreciate your reply. PS second gear hard to find-alot of grinding-pop's out of 4th-one dam noisey transmission...apparently the original.

Muncie and Richmond both require change to new front yoke, and a new richmond or a rebuilt Muncie either one will be more expensive than a T-10 rebuild, even figuring the cost of a new second gear and/or a new input (4th) Why not call Ed Hartnett at (610) 623 9381 and have a chat about the symtoms you are having and options for the T-10.

              Terry,
I hope that you do not take this the wrong way, but here goes anyway. This is probably not the best site to get information on such a conversion. Almost everyone who posts over here is interested in keeping their car original and will not have much to offer. Even those who do have some knowledge in this area will probably not offer it, in respect for the board. Your best option would probably be the Corvette Forum or a similar discussion board that does not have such a narrow focus in their duscussion. I do both restorations and Hot Rods, but would never bring a Hot Rod discussion to this board.

              Regards, John McGraw

Appreciate your candor John. But, there's the conflict that's making me crazy. My '58 is completely stock. The T-10 B/W in my opinion is now finally shot (others have given the same opine) Now- what to do?? order new and be rid of the transmission problem or push the purist in me and try it again.

                  Re: T-10 repair...

"Shot" is a very non-descriptive term, and brings a wide variety of interpretations. I would suggest that you have it looked at by someone who specializes in 4-speed work, and has more than a casual familiarity with the T-10. From what you have described, a new input shaft, new second gear, and a set of "torque loc" synchro sliders along with normal rebuild parts, bearings, seals, etc, should get you back in business. All of these parts are available new, so if your case is good, why not give it a shot, especially on an all-original car. Also, have you rebuilt the shifter? wear in the pin the shifter shaft pivots on can cause engangmant problems, and can be easily fixed with a little creativity. Where are you located? The group might have some recommendations for someone near you to give it a more detailed analysis than "shot"

Bill always gives good advice and I listen very closely when he addresses any problem. Infact, everything he said I've already done to my T-10(done by professionals) Thanks for your input as well as everyone else.

                        Dear Terry,
While I'm new to the discussion board, I'm not new to restoring classic cars. I too am having some difficulties with the Borg Warner T-10 that I am installing in my 1960 Corvette. In my case, I have found a friend who lives near me that use to rebuild Muncies and T-10's during the sixties and seventies. Needless to say, I was a bit overwhelmed when I visited his storage facility and saw dozens of old T-10's, Muncies and NOS replacement parts that he has been holding on to for the past 25-years. If you would like to visit with him, please email me your contact information. I will pass it along to him. I am trying to convince him to come out of retirement -as far as rebuilding and troubleshooting these old transmissions are concerned. Sorry to be so lengthy, it's my first reply.
