C1 - VIN Tag

I did some work on my steering box over this past spring and knocked off the VIN tag. Any hints as to how to re-attach it. I know I could glue/epoxy/silicon it back on, but I would rather it be more permanent and original looking. Has anyone had any luck trying to spot weld it, and what EXACTLY did you do? Thanks in advance!!!
On a side note, I went to Carlisle for the first time, and I still can't believe how many cars and people selling parts were there. Had a great time!!!

Jim: unless your welding expertise is exceptional, i wouldn't try spot welding the vin tag back on the steering col. I'd silicone or epoxy it on THEN take a wire tie(that can easily be removed during judging events if that is what you aiming for) to retain the vin tag in the event the silicone or epoxy fails. a Wire tie won't fail--better yet, use 2 wire ties.Mike

P.S. I use the wire ties on our c-1s that have intact spot welds as a precaution. mike

I don't even trust wire ties. I use a hose clamp. Now I'm thinking about 2 hose clamps.

Thanks for the info, but can anyone help me with the welding data so I can show it to a welding friend of mine??? (I'll doe the hose clamp trick too!)
