I'm installing new seat belts in my 68 convert. Does the belt that's bolted to the floorpan under the seat, mount under the carpet or on top of the carpet? Also, the lap belt runs through a reinforcement plate that bolts to the side of the floorpan. Is this part supposed to be chromed? Mine is. Thanks for the help. Scott

Re: '68 seat belt installation
The seat belt mounts under the carpet. The retainer is either chrome or stainless steel; it has been a long time since I looked at one out of the car. I don't know if you are replacing carpet also, but there should be a vinyl
grommet in the carpet for the belt to pass through.- Top

Re: '68 seat belt installation
I am replacing the carpet. The carpet is from Al Knoch, but does not include a vinyl grommet for the seat belt to pass thru. I think the original carpet did, but unfortunately I think I through it away thinking it would be included with the new carpet. Thanks for the response, I thought it should mount under the carpet but wasn't sure.- Top
