Re: Essential for Corvette Carlisle
If you're at space G-110, a heavy object (like a large, full cooler of beer, brats, sausage, and filet mignon)is handy for anchoring the end of the line that's tethering the 18-foot-long Vetteheads.com BLIMP. Another first- Top

What homage have you paid to the God's of weather?
As I recall (with my MOTHER IN LAW)living in Carlisle, the Fairgrounds are not fun under precipitation.
See ya' there, regardless.

Re: Essential for Corvette Carlisle
Sounds like a blast -- wish I could make it ! Hey Doc , when viewing your photos of last year's event , the "snaps" on the Purple People Eater doors (vinyl covers over the window openings) caught my attention . My '60 big brake fulie has these snaps and I never knew why they were there . Was this something often copied by Vette owners in the 60's , factory installed , dealer installed , or strictly a racing feature ?? Thanks for any info , and hope everyone has a great time at "THE" event , George- Top

Re: Essential for Corvette Carlisle
George,
That purple car was restored by Ken Heckert, Chip Miller's former partner in the car. Both were well into Corvettes in York, PA in the early 70's (1974?) when they bought the car together.
Ken runs a body shop in Glen Rock, PA. You cn likely contact him there for more info on those snaps.
I purchased my 71 coupe from one of his employees.

i checked the pictures
and can not see the snaps you are reffering to but back in those days a lot of corvette race cars had snaps on the car to put a cover over the cockpit while the car was not being raced. corvettes back then were towed on a open trailer and the spare parts were carried inside the corvette.- Top

Re: i checked the pictures
Hi Clem . Thanks for the response . The "snaps" I'm referring to are in the 3rd and 4th photo of the '59 Purple People Eater . Actually , you cannot see the snaps , but you can see the vinyl cover over the top of the door , and you can kind of see the bulge where the snaps are located under the cover . I have not done much research on this vechile ; but if I were to look for racing history , where might I start ? Car was purchased out of the northeast , but lack of rust indicates that vette could have been in a drier climate, or kept away from the elements ??? Interior is white , which wasn't offered in 1960 , and I have restored the dash and guage housing (found no indication of another color ?). Thanks again for response . Hope everyone at Carlisle finds a rare part or two , enjoys a beer or two ,hears a great story or two , and makes a new friend or two --- Cheers to all . Geo- Top

Re: Essential for Corvette Carlisle
The snaps could have been for a tonneau cover. Very popular aftermarket option on sporty cars in the 50s and 60s.- Top
