    70 washer pump (dead port)

One of the ports of the washer pump (pass side headlamp) is "dead" as no fluid comes out when the pump is activated. The other 4 ports have plenty of pressure. Not being familar with the pump's construction, I was wondering if someone knew what the diagnosis and remedy is?

    Thanks, Chris

Chris, since only one of the ports is malfunctioning, you probably have a bad valve on the port. Each port has a little rubber check valve that allows fluid to exit the pump, but not return. If the check valve is not sealing, the fluid just recycles without leaving the pump body.

These little valves have circular disc and an attaching stem that pulls through the plastic valve plate. Each rubber check valve seals against a circular area in the plastic valve plate (part of the pump body) for each respective port. Having enough of these valves is one of the big problems in rebuilding a five port pump; if you find the three port pump rebuild kits, better buy two of them and keep them for spare parts.
