I'm in the midst of putting drum brakes on my '63. The problem is that there weren't any on there before, so I'm buying parts and digging through boxes of old parts. I have 8 connecting links (the forked rod that goes into the WC on each end and pushes the shoe out) in a box of used parts and I have no idea if they are all fronts, all rears, or if one size fits all. It has been far too long since I've done any drum brakes.
The service manual doesn't even mention them.
Does anyone here know if there are differences between front wheel and rear wheel connecting links and if there is, how do you know which is which? I just got my rear WC tonight and the links look too large for the hole, even allowing that they should be squeezed through the rubber cup.
I don't have the front WC yet to compare as they are on order. Naturally, the new WC didn't come with links which would have simplified the job.
Thanks.
