    C2 Idler Arm Questions

I often see idler arms included in C2 front end rebuild kits. Do idler arms actually "wear out" or do they simply have bushings/bearings/whatever that need replacement? Is rebuilding a realistic option or is replacement of the entire idler arm a more practical approach?

    Thanks as always,

    Mike-----

Idler arms DO wear out and, given their importance in the whole steering equation, even a slight amount of wear to the internals renders the arm unsatisfactory.

The design of all stock GM-type and most aftermarket arms is such that rebuilding is not possible in any practical sense of the term. Plus, no internal parts are sold to service the idler arms.

Agree with joe but if you're gonna have it judged, get an idler arm without a grease fitting or "loose" the drilled and tapped hole in the bottom face of the arm as judges deduct for non-original zerk fittings. mike
