    62 Clutch Return Spring

Can anyone help me with a recommended method for installing the heavy return spring without creating a lot of excitement?

i put the vet of a lift, then with the help of a Large cresent wrench with pipe extension, attach nthe wrench to the lever protruding down at you and strectch the spring. don't go over center. two people easier than one guy but it can be done singularly. good luck, mike

I made a tee shaped block of wood with a 2X4 screwed on the edge of a second 2X4. Approx 6" long. From under the car, with the clutch rod disconnected from the cross shaft lever, using a 12" cresent wrench on the crossshaft lever next to the engine, install the spring to the cross shaft lever using the thin oval bracket. Rotate the crossshaft with the cresent wrench, streching the spring, until you can place the tee block between the crossshaft lever and the firewall. Slowly release the cresent until you are sure the block of wood is solidly placed. Connect the clutch rod, again with the cresent wrench, rotate the crossshaft until you can remove the block of wood. Adjust the freeplay of the clutch, and then adjust the crosslever, where the clutch rod connects, until the spring is overcenter pulling the pedal against the rubber bumper.

Thanks for the help. Got it done this morning in a few minutes with a big adjustable wrench to rotate the crosshaft and a friend to slip in the bolt.
