    C2 shock absorber broadcast stickers

    Members,
The '65 Judging Manual states that the front and rear shock absorbers have a paper sticker with a two letter broadcast code in black letters applied to the shock body.

Question is: What is the exact location and orientation of these stickers?

    Thanks,
    Gene

There's really no way to say what the exact location was for the shock broadcast code labels on your vehicle since the labels were rather randomly applied. They were not applied in a precise location. However, on the rear shocks, they were applied to the rod shield at a location ABOUT 1/3 of the way from the top of the shield. For the front shocks, they were applied to the shock body about midway.

      Joe,
Thank you for your reply and location information. Can you give me an idea of the orienation of the stickers. Such as, were they horizontal, vertical, at an angle (randomly appied)?

They were randomly applied and usually not perfectly horizontal, but they were GENERALLY horizontal with respect to the "axis" of the shock.

          Gene,

I made them myself, and applied them so that the Judges could see them. In NCRS judging, that's more important than how the factory did it.

You think I'm kidding. I'm not. They didn't even comment on them at Hershey.

            Joe,
Thank you for your information. To clarify, you stated that the stickers are "generally horizontal with respect to the axis of the shock."

Do you mean that when the shock is installed on the car, that the letters EK and EM (in my case) appear as they do as if I were reading a newspaper (cross-wise)?

            Thanks,
            Gene

              Patrick,
Thank you for your response. Please comment on the message that I just sent Joe. I was planning on ordering my stickers from Paragon when I order the shock absorbers.

My terminology was incorrect or, at least, confusing. When the shock is upright (as on the car), the labels were placed more-or-less horizontal (like reading a newspaper or any text)

Check your judging guide first. I found that the codes listed in the Judging Guide did NOT match what I saw in the Paragon catalog. And, for a few pennies worth of label, use of a laser printer at work, and some time I had what I needed. No shipping charges, either.

Re: C2 shock absorber broadcast stickers

                    Patrick,
Thank you for your reply and information. Now I'm confused. The 4th Edition, '65 TIM & JG only refers to the stickers as "small white paper sticker". The broadcast code is not documented.

I got the "EK" front & "EM" rear, standard suspension from the Paragon catalog. Are you suggesting that they (Paragon) may be incorrect? How can I determine the correct code for a '65 with standard suspension?

The Pliacell number on the rear shock is 3186907. Which is different from the number in the '65 JG on page 137. The number in the JG is 3186096 (perhaps a typo)? I have not removed the front shocks yet to get their number.

                    Thanks again,
                    Gene

                      Joe,
Thank you for the clarification. I would also like to ask your thoughts regarding the message that I just left Patrick.

My original rear shocks are Pliacell number 3186907 where as the '65 TIM & JG documents the number on page 137 as 3186906.

                        Gene-----

Notwithstanding the numbers provided in the judging guide, I believe that the number which you mentioned that you found on your rear shocks, 3186907, is the original part number.

The Paragon broadcast two alpha character codes I believe are correct for a 65. However, I don't think that they are correct for some later years including, at least, 68-82.

Correct. The 70-72 manual specifies different codes.

If none are specified in the 65 Guide, then you can use Paragon's. Save shipping and buy them at Carlisle.

Thanks for the good advice. I'll be there and there is nothing wrong with saving money! Besides, I'll have the front shocks off by Carlisle time.
