Removing a C1 Hood

What is the best way to remove the hood on a 1960? Remove hood/hinges as one unit from the radiator brackets? or remove hood from hinges? I am getting ready to pull the engine and thought it would be a good time to repaint the underside of the hood.

If I remove the hood from the hinges, where do I make the scribe mark so it goes back on in the same position?

Joe,
I leave the hinges in place and remove the hood from the hinges. If the hood has the original blackout paint on it, you will not need to mark it since any area under the hinge will be bare glass. It is a good idea however, to put a piece of tape along the hood at the upper edge of the hinge. You will still need to do some alignment after you put it back on, but it is easy if you don't mess with the hinge mounting bolts. It is however, a 2 man job to remove the hood!

Hi Joe -
I too remove the hood from the hinges. But just in case someone has tweaked the alignment, I'd mark the perimeter of the flange before you unscrew the bolts. John Hinkley once suggested Whiteout for this and I've used it with success.
