I would like to get some input on the "correct" oil cap for the 65BB engine. I have been told the 65 396 oil caps were not plated and not painted / blackened or darkened either. The original un-plated S oil cap also should have the rivet upside down (the S rivet head facing towards the head and the stacked dimple towards the air cleaner). Can anyone confirm the configuration of the original oil cap? Thanks again for your help. Dan K.

Dan-----
The 1965 L-78 oil caps were finished with a black enamel paint that sometimes appeared to have a greenish hue. There was a round headed rivet in the center of the cap which contained the embossed "S" for Stant Manufacturing. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

My orig. from #16120 is low grade gloss black enamel, no green hue, has the s stamp with a square deep dimple rivit in the inside center.it also has a small (1/4) SM in a double circle in the sheet metal center flat section next to the rivet.Bill- Top
