As I prepare to finish the trunk on my "56,I am confused. The car has Coker WWW radials. I have an extra rim all powder coated and painted up all pretty! I figured I would buy a Coker repop bias tire for the spare. The problem?.....I have an NOS tire cover(wood) and a beautiful trunk mat for it. I heard on this board a while back that a Coker repro bias tire will inflate to a point where the tire board will not seat into the floor due to the tire expanding. Is this true? Do I have to keep shopping and pay a King's ransom for an NOS tire? At this point it seems as though it is the only option if I want the trunk mat to be level with the trunk floor. Any suggestions?? Thanks!

Re: C1 Spare Tire Enigma
I can tell you that the Firestone 6.70 x 15 repop wide white bias ply tire fits fine in the trunk of my 54, which is similar. The trunk board lies flat. Radials are too "bulbous" for the trunk board to lie flat. Don't know if this helps you out. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: C1 Spare Tire Enigma
I've tried Firestone, U.S.Royal, and Goodyear. All are too large for C1 and C2 tire wells. I did find an original type 7.75x15 that fit fine. That's what I have in my 57. It wasn't expensive like an original 6.70 would be.- Top

Re: C1 Spare Tire Enigma
On my '57, I used a Coker 6.70-15 B.F. Goodrich Silvertown WWW repro on an original rim as my spare (same as my "judging tires"), and the board sat up about 1/4" above flush. The original 6.70's didn't have to be inflated when they came out of the mold (DOT requirement), thus the original non-DOT 6.70's are slightly smaller in cross-section than the repros.- Top
