I am looking at finding a C2 corvette with silver interior. I have seen silver interior cars with both a silver dash area and a black dash area. What is correct? I am primarily interested in the 1965 and 1966 cars. Again, I have seen pictures of both and want to be sure if the car should have a black or silver dash for the silver interior cars. Thanks.

I can find no record that silver dash panels were ever ORIGINALLY produced and used. I believe that cars with silver interiors received black dash panels. Of course, silver dash panels may have been offered in "reproduction". It's possible that silver dash panels were used for all or part of 1966, but I don't think so. Silver interiors were only available for the 64-66 model years. For the most part, they were available only with black, white, or silver exterior colors. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Here is a link to one with the silver dash. Not to say this is original, but it does make me wonder. A person a ZIP parts stated that they had a book showing a '65 with silver interior and a black dash. It was a Bloomington 100 point car.

Re: Correct C2 Dash pad color for Silver interior
James,
------In 1965 and 66 a silver interior could only have a black dash and pads. This is true for every last silver interior 65/66.Glare off the windshield was the reason given by Chevrolet back then.Even 64 big Chevy SSs with silver interior had black dash pads. The 66 you linked to has repro dash pads.Al will make you anything you want, even if its wrong!...........Bill S- Top

Re: Correct C2 Dash pad color for Silver interior
That sounds perfectly reasonable to me. One question, is this documented anywhere? I would think there must be a place stating that white and silver interiors had black dashes. I have been going thru my Corvette Restoration & Tech Guide and the only thing I found was in reference to the 64's on pg. 199.
Thanks to everyone for their responses!- Top

Also, it's "documented" in a fashion by the fact that I can find no reference that silver dash panels were ever manufactured for PRODUCTION or SERVICE. If GM never ordered that any be made, it's a pretty safe bet that they never used any on the cars.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Correct C2 Dash pad color for Silver interior
James,
-------Just a few oddball sidebars.
-------1.1964 was the only year one could have ordered silver with another color dash and pads. You could order dark blue with silver and it was stunning!
-------2.In 64,65,66,and 67 one could have had white interiors with other than black dash and pads.As a matter of fact,in 66 you couldnt get white with black as white interior was only available with bright blue accents.
-------3.64 was probably the high point for different combos as white was even available with tan accents, along with red, black, and blue, and the two silver combos.
-------Hope I havent bored anyone...........Bill S- Top
