C3 - Ignition Switch Replacement / Trim Tag Q

I'm working on a 1974 Corvette and the ignition switch is bad. Can someone please tell me how to replace the ignition switch? I have a tilt & tele column. How do I get the old switch out?

Also, Where can I purchase a repro trim tag? My tag was removed years ago.

It is not easy to replace these switches as they are located on the lower end of the steering column's upper surface. You must lower the column to replace. This was done intentionally for theft prevention reasons. In any event, the complete procedure will be found in your 1974 Chevrolet Service Manual. You shouldn't be even attempting any repair (especially, one like this) without having and following the procedure in the Chevrolet Service Manual. For 1974, this is a somewhat expensive publication, but if you want to work on your own car, you must have it. You can get one at the NCRS bookstore.

Steve The igniton switch bolts to the outside of the column with two screws between the lower dash and the firewall. It should be easy to remove and their is some adjustment that could be your problem. It has a rod going to the key lock assembly. Lyle
