    C2 1964 Convertible Antenna Location

    Hi,

I've stripped the paint of the body of my car and revealed that the hole for the antenna has been relocated. The hole that has been filled overlaps the hole that I now have. I'm trying to identify which of the locations is the correct one. Would some one please measure from the deck lid opening back, and from the peak of the left rear fender over, to the center of the antenna, and let me know what the measurements are? I don't want to mount the antenna in the wrong location.

    Thanks in advance. Phil

i use maguires fine cut liquid buffing comp with a lo speed buffer with a cotton buff. have a buddy spray cool h2o onplexiglass and don't run too long or put too much pressure on the bufer as you remove the scratches. if your finger nail stops in the scratches as you drag it across the scratches, its usually not repairable. good luck, mike

      Philip,

Please disregard the LRG's responce. (I'd say he's on the brewskies again)

I have the antenna off my late 63 roadster and measure 11 1/8 inches aft of the rear deck opening and 6 inches inboard of the left rear fender peak.

Both measuments are to the CENTER POINT of the antenna hole opening.

Unless there was a location change the following year, this should be the proper location for yours too.

        Thanks Tracy,

When you measured from the peak of the fender, did you measure from the peak downward, directly to the center of the antenna hole, or from the peak horizontally to the location over the center of the hole? Both of the antenna holes in my car are close to the 11 1/8" measurement, but the measurement from the peak is where the holes over-lap, and using the downward, from the peak directly to the center of the holes method, one hole would appear to be 6 5/16 " and the other 5 5/8 ".

The reason that I think this measurement is critical is that I don't believe the re-enforcement plate will fit correctly if I place the hole at the wrong distance. (the plate was missing when i bought the car and I've ordered one but haven't received it yet)

        Thanks again, Phil

          Philip,
I just measured the location of the center of the antenna hole in my '65. I should be accurate because the antenna in not installed in the car.

From the top hatch down, I measured 10 1/2". From the fender ridge, I measured 5 5/8" over. Hope this helps.

          Regards,
          Gene

            Phil:

I checked the measurements for my '64 convertible. They are the same as TC's. The measurement from the top edge of the fender was made straight across. Hope that helps.

              Gene,

Thanks, that does help. I don't know how the factory cut these holes, but I don't think they were there when the body panel came out of the mold, as not all cars received radios. They probably took a measurement or used a template, to determine the location, and then drilled with a hole saw. With the information that you and Tracy have provided, I'm confident that I'll be close enough for a proper fit.

              Thanks again, Phil

                Thanks Mike,

I'll be glassing and cutting today.

                Thanks again, Phil

                  Philip,

The 6 inch measurement is "along contour" I used a flexible measuring tape and held it against the fender to the hole.

The "straight across" method should be close enough however.

Sorry for the delayed response, I check out after posting last night.

                    Phil,
As you probably know, the hole for the antenna is very close to 3/4" in diameter. In addition, don't forget that there is a small (approx 1/4" dia.) portion of a hole (actually more of a 1/4" slot with a rounded bottom) located at the 6 oclock position of the antenna hole. This is where the feature is located that fixes the antenna bezel in it's correction position on the body. Hope I've explained this correctly.

                    Regards,
                    Gene
