I have a '66 Rt Ft Brake noise driving me crazy. I've tried anti-squeak sleeves between pads & calipers, greasing retaining pin on top and lastly...turning up my radio to drown it out. Any successful midyear experiences?

Re: C-2 Brake Squeeeeeeaks
Don,
Did the brake just start sqeeking all of a sudden or did it start after you performed some maintenance? Such as replacing pads?
Also, do you see any percular colors on indications on the front or back surfaces of the rotor?

Re: C-2 Brake Squeeeeeeaks
Gene,
Negative to both. I've had this squeak for some time and it's not constant. Primarily when driving slow and it pulsates. In other words, it squeaks like the pads passing over something on the rotor, but I've checked them. Sometimes, the squeak stops when I apply brakes. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks for your input.- Top

Re: C-2 Brake Squeeeeeeaks
On a non-Corvette vehicle I had in the past, I had the same problem - squealing brakes and a pulsing sensation in the early part of the braking effort. I let it go because I couldn't isolate a problem at home. Eventually, the pulsing sensation felt at the brake pedal increased to a point where the vehicle itself would "pulse". That is, in a braking situation, you could feel the brakes grab and release over and over.
I had the rotors replaced and everything was fine. I couldn't say for sure, but I recall that the rotors were warped and configured in a "wavy" pattern. I think this is what was causing the pulsing sensation.
Your symptom may be the same as mine, but the diagnosis different. But it couldn't hurt to pull the suspect rotor and have it checked for true.- Top

Re: C-2 Brake Squeeeeeeaks
I tend to agree with Kevin about the rotor. Before I replace a perfectly good? rotor, I would be inclined to change to a softer set of brake pads. Some semi-metallic pads have so much metal in them that they create a noicy condition.
Good luck.

Re: C-2 Brake Squeeeeeeaks
I had the same pulsating brake problem with my (then new) Chevy pick-up truck. Turned out to be a warped rotor caused by sudden braking and a cold rotor. Once they were turned I haven't had the pulsating reoccur yet, 82,000 miles later. Good Luck, Kent #6201Kent
