1968 427/390HP Engine Installation Advice

I will be installing my freshly rebuilt engine soon and would like to benefit from the collective experience of the general membership in order to ensure a good job of it.

Currently the bellhousing and 4-speed transmission are still in place on the car.

Which is the preferred course of action? Should the engine, bellhousing and transmission be assembled outside the car and installed as a complete unit or should the engine go in separately? For your information, I have an excellent engine lift apparatus, good tools and plenty of skilled help.

Your advice is much appreciated. Thank you.

Should be no problem mating the engine and other components in the car. You may need a helper to guide and help align the trans input shaft while you work the hoist.

you might have to....

rotate the input shaft to mate with the clutch spline, other than that, it's a walk in the park. Only way to pull the motor...why create more work for yourself. I'll never yank the tranny again, when pulling the motor.
