I have 9 shims on the right rear and 8 on the left rear...does this mean 9 and 8 marks with the white grease pencil respectively for my 67?

Re: 1967 body shim marks
Keith, has the body been removed and reset? Rear clip replaced? Typical the number of shims in any one spot are five or less as sent out the door by GM. I have never removed a virgin body with more than 5 shims in any one position. Five would be marked as 4 with the fifth line thru the four.- Top

Re: 1967 body shim marks
Keth,
The person that marked the shim numbers (4) was trying to simulate the norm. A good chassis judge will note and deduct for the unusual number of shims and the miss count between actual number of shims and marking indication. This is at the rearward most mounting points that are very visable. I would suggest that something is a miss thus the vast number of shims. The door fit is one issue that would indicate the cause or possibily a replaced rear clip. What are the shim counts on the other mounting points? Perhaps they can be reduced to allow for less shims at the rear. Often due to age and fit the original numbers of shims is adjusted for better door/body fit than what the general did. But 8 or 9 is too many (on the judging field).- Top

Re: 1967 body shim marks
I checked in the front of the rear wheewell and both sides have 5. The door fit, gaps and aligniment to the rear clip, don't show any unusual gaps or height difference. The body line is also lined up. Upon recounting it is definitly 9 on the right, but 7 not 8 on the left.- Top

Re: 1967 body shim marks
If all the body mounts would have 5 or more shims you could take the same amount out of each location and usally have the same fit. If the installer started with too many in the middle he just put more in the rear to correct it as that was the fastest for him. LyleLyle
