I have a fuel leak from the Holley carb. We've replaced the gaskets, but the problem still occurs. The car is a '66 ragtop w/427/425, complete frame-off within the last 2 years (inc. engine). This car is new to me and I don't have alot of experience with it or big blocks in general. Any idea of what the leak problem could be?

Bob-----
More than likely, the problem relates to a warped or otherwise distorted primary or secondary metering body or a distorted air horn assembly. Identifying the exact location of the leak will help narrow down the possibilities. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Holley carb w/fuel leak
Joe is on the money. I went thru this exercise in April. Sometimes you can machine them true and flat and sometimes you can't. I had Jerry McNeish rebuild my original Holley 4160 and now it runs perfect and doesn't leak.

Re: Holley carb w/fuel leak
as joe relates, you need to isolate the leak source. if its the acceleator pump housing(common problem) then just remove it, and rub it on a piece of glass and sandpaper to remove the warp. if its at the metering block, its usually curable with new holly high-perf gaskets. mike- Top

Re: Holley carb w/fuel leak
Bob - can you see where is the fuel leaking from? I'd try what the other guys have suggested, and check for any warpage between the many flat surfaces on your Holley.
I used to have a recurrent leak with my Holleys at the fuel filter housing. I'd tighten it, and it would start leaking a few days later. It would be loose, so I'd tighten it again - same problem over and over. I finally replaced the gasket in question with a HOLLEY gasket rather than the "Joe Shmoe's Gasket Company" version that I was using at the time. I haven't had a leak since.
Good luck!- Top
