Not having the correct core is the rub. The '326 casting was common to a number of water pumps (final PN not shown on part dictated secondary operations like drill & tap the upper boss for external bypass, specific internal impeller used, shaft and hub specifics) and finding a correct 'core' for Corvette isn't all that easy! I've seen 'em bid to over $150 (core without rebuild) on eBay....

If you had the water pump core to start with, rebuild kits are available from the catalog houses. It's possible to do it yourself with appropriate shop tool (press, media blast cabinet, Etc.) and the information given in the shop manual.
