    5 leaf 62 rear springs???????

I'm working on a customer's 62 which is sort of numbers matching (it has original 300hp block and T-10). It is a 300hp, 4sp, posi (apparently non original rear center) 2 top car. No evidence of HD or metallic brakes, no fast steering adapter, nothing. BUUUUUUUUUUUT, it has 5 leaf rear springs. No liners, 5 clamps per side (3 at the front and 2 rear) and riveted from the bottom. The clamps wrap around and are open at the top. The leaves do not have grooves.
    What are these springs?
I also have a virgin survivor 62 (rough, but it's all there) that I'm storing for the estate of a lady who is in a nursing home. It has what I am 100% convinced is the original 4 leaf springs with liners and different style clamps. Each leaf of the 4 leaves seems thicker than each leaf of the 5 leaves.
To the best of my knowledge, the only way 5 leaves could have ended up on a 62 is if they were added AFTER (1 day or 30yrs) delivery of the car. Right?

    Tom,
Your guess would be mine as well. Rear springs got replaced often because they were pretty to bend, causing the rear of the car to settle. Regards,
