    C2 shock tower grommet

On top of the shock tower is what I call a grommet, but the correct name may be something else. It is a shallow "cup" that the upper shock cushion seats in. Is this replaceable, and if so, where is it available? I haven't found it in any of the catalogs.

(A recent post dealt with a similar subject, but I gathered that the part referred to in that post as "grommet" is what I am calling "cushion".

    Steve-----

You didn't mention what year model C2 that you're talking about. In this case, it makes a difference.

For 1965-67, as well as 68-82, the upper shock retainer and grommet were special pieces. The retainer was GM #3790342 and the grommet was GM #3790341. These were used only for the UPPER front shock retainer and grommet. The lower retainer and grommet were the same as most standard Chevrolet applications. For 63-64, the upper and lower grommets and retainers were the same and were, essentially, the same as the 65+ lowers and most other Chevrolet/GM applications.

The 65-82 UPPER retainers and grommets are still available from GM under the original part numbers. The 65+ lowers and 63-64 upper and lower are currently known as GM #25628204 for the retainers and GM #6270752 for the grommets. The 6270752 grommets are configured a bit differently from the original pieces, but once installed, they will appear and function just like the originals. I don't know, at the moment, just how the 25628204 retainers differ from the originals. I would expect the difference to be minor, if any.

      Addendum

Before anyone else chimes in on this, it's also POSSIBLE that later 64s MAY have used the 65+ style upper shock grommets and retainers.
