Exhaust Manifold Washers on 1965 FI

I removed the headers on my 65 Fuelie and put my stock exhaust manifolds and ignition shielding back on. My question,are there supposed to be washers on the 2 middle bolts on the exhaust manifold??? The reason for asking is the washers seem to push the shielding and mounting brackets out too far. The AIM isn't too clear on this.

The thick washers go on front/rear manifold bolts. No washers are used on the center bolts.

That is what I needed to know, it just didn't look right with the center washers on.
