C1 Axle Bearings

I have another message posted about 62 axle bearings, but wondered if any knows the dimensions of 56-57 rear axle bearings? trying to figure out what rear end housing is under my car. It appears Corvette, has upper strut rods, rear sway bar, but has rear axle bearings that are 2.85 instead of 3.01 in diameter. Can an early Chevy rear housing fit?

Terry, Early Corvette axle housings, including 56 and 57 would not have the upper strut bar brackets unless they had been added.

Chevy housings from 56 to 64 will work but you need to relocate the spring suport plate.

Terry, the Corvette axle housing flanges are rotated at approximately 45 degree angle compared to the Chevrolet axle housing which are square with the ground. 56-8 axle housing do not have the strut bars, only 59-62. Unfortunately, can't get to my parts books (in storage due to moving) but the 56-58 axle bearings are wider. In 59 (59-62) the bearings are narrower and Chevrolet added a shim to make up the difference. Hope this helps. Regards, Gary.... #5895
