There is a business just outside Raleigh NC called HiTech Stripping. Their phone number is (919) 557-9390. He does plastic media blasting on Corvettes. I had him strip some small parts for me (headlight bezels, rear vent grilles, wiper door, etc) and he did an excellent job, on time, for a reasonable price.

        Johnny,

I recently moved to western NC from NJ. I found a company that does
whole cars using plastic media blasting. The company is Biltmore
Abrasive Blasting. They are in either Arden or Asheville, NC.
828 areacode. They did a job on my John Deere tractor. I was
considering them for an L/89 Camaro project I am undertaking.

        Good luck.
        Steve

Johnny - If I were you, I would not media blast my vette. I had a local contractor here in Tucson do it to my headlight shells on my 74 and was not real happly, it left more roughness than I prefer. I used chemical stripper on the body and was glad I did. I have heard if they keep the media flawlessly clean it is better, but over time the media takes on debris and the debris is usually more agressive than the plastic. The outfit I used was very experienced and did lots of military work here do to Davis Monthan AFB. I am guessing they would not be willing to use new meadia for small requests such as one car....these are very large installations. Anyway, my 2 cents...best of luck on your 69...Craig

Yeah I think im going to pass on the media blasting mostly because of the cost..
Im going to get some stripper and try it on my hood and see how it turns out.
I guess its time for lots of newspaper to get thrown on the ground =0)

Anyway I flew up to cherry point nc thats where our helicopters go for the same rework that you are talking about, they use media blasting on the airframes well I saw something interesting all the fiberglass components on the planes had not been striped left completly alone all the did was the metal pieces so that didnt make me to comfy!

              so stripper it is!

              now what strippers are good?

I had my 67 roadster media blasted in May and had no problems what so ever. They did not take it ALL the way to bare fiberglass. Some light primer was still left on the car. My paint guy prefers it over anything else. He then does hand sanding to bare fiberglass. We did not blast the door jams, under the deck lid or head light buckets. The car is almost ready for paint and I could not be happier with the finish to date.
