    power antenna malfunction-c2

My restored C2 power antenna has had the under dash switch replaced. All worked well until yesterday-elevated, hesitated, then froze in extension.
The up position of the switch yields the usual noise, but down position
yields no sound or retraction of the antenna. Do I likely have a short or
    gear problem in the motor?Thanks

Sounds like the switch or wiring is not delivering power in the down mode.

      John:

If you just bought a new reproduction switch, then it is junk. I had this happen to me a few years ago. I CAREFULLY disassembled the switch and got it to work better. I don't remember what I did--I think I stiffened one of the springs inside. If you are mechanically inclined, then the design deficiency will become apparent.

As an aside, other GM cars of the era with power antenna applications used the same switch "guts" as the Corvette, and if you can find one, you can interchabge the parts into your Bezel.

          Bill,
Is it possible to use a power window switch or the guts of the
power window switch for his power antenna switch??????
          Just a thought.

          Regards,

I never tried but I don't think so mostly due the the wires being staked directly onto the bottom of the switch. You might be able to do a "workaround or use some of the internal parts from a window switch, likely it depends on the specific nature of the problem with the switch being worked on. I haven't tried to use a repro, I found another switch (Oldsmobile) and it just looked like a no-brainer. ( Now watch the price of old GM switches go up!)
