    Need 696 Alternator

Anyone know where I can find a 696 alternator. Just found out my old one is a re-stamp.

I did not know anyone was restamping alternators. Any idea who did the restamp? Are the numbers ingraved perhaps? I know of one person that does this on rare alternators. You can definitely tell the difference.

ed. about 10 years ago, when i was 66 team leader, terry Mcmannon pointed out a cluster of restamped alternators that utilized tiwain main bodies. the parting lines on the foreign cases was located in a different location compared to the delco alts. seems to me that the restamper was located in the south. haven't seen any of the foreign restamps lately. mike

        Re: Need 696 Alternator

Thanks Mike. I know of one guy that was sanding down correct configuration alternators in between the parting lines, then engraving them with the numbers that the customer wanted. Real popular with the Chevelle, Camaro, etc. set. I talked to him one time at a classic chevy show. He said the Corvette people were too picky for him. I interpreted that to mean that his "restamps" were easily detectible.

I have also seen those foreign reproduction main cases. The ones I saw did not have the Delco Remy logo cast into them.

Perkle's list is about a year long. E bay specializes in "interesting" numbers
I suggest the age old resource, swap meets such as Carlisle. There is nothing better than putting your hand on the part, nothing worse than letting go of the money
          Good luck

                    Re: Need 696 Alternator

Can someone please elaborate on detecting restamps. I just purchased a 696 alternator for a 68 on eBay. I posted a message on Thursday (6/19) entitled "TI Alternator for 68" in which I asked the very same question. That post has a link to the auction with a very good picture of the stamp. If someone could help, it is most appreciated.

I would love to go to Carlisle and get "hands on", but as I am in the nether regions of Texas, it becomes difficult. Does anyone know if the USA is issuing entrance visa's to Texans ;-)

Didn't know that I was advertising, but now I see that it could be interpreted that I was indeed advertising, and I will now be silent and self-punish myself..
