My 54 vette has started puking tranny fluid after it has sat uncranked for a few days. What causes this and how can it be fixed? Seems like there was a discussion about this a few days ago. I searched the archives and couldn't find the discussion. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 54 Vette Puking Tranny Fluid
This is a common problem on the older powerglides. The seal ring around the input shaft is worn and when the car sits for a while, the ATF will leak back from the torque converter and will overfill the transmission sump. When the car is started, the overfill condition will cause the fluid to come back out the dipstick tube.
Been there done that...

Re: 54 Vette Puking Tranny Fluid
The suction pipe seal is hard or the pipe ear srews are loose which causes AIR to be sucked in with the fluid (on start up)causing the oil to foam and spew out the filler tube P.S. ( weather the trans oil is over filled OR not). Trans oil to now and then spill on the garage floor is when the torque converter oil runs back and fills the trans case because the valve body (Cast) oil seals rings and input shaft (Cast) ring are worn and cant hold the oil back. That is the truth the hole truth and nothing but the truth.- Top
