    C2 Water Temp Gage Pegged

I reinstaled the gage panel yesterday in my 65 roadster. The water temp gage has pegged to the far right, horizontal, and not returned. This happened as soon as I connected the battery, prior to even turning the key. Can anyone tell me if I have cooked the gage, and where I might start to look for the problem? The connector only goes on one way, so I don't think that could be it. Here is an interesting point, I sent the gage out to have a face lift and the guy told me that it had a dead short, which he fixed. The gage functioned perfently before removal, so I am at a total loss of where to begin. All suggestions are welcome, I haven't reinstalled the steering column fearing that I may have to remove the dash panel again.

    Thank you,

    George

Check it by pulling the sender wire off. Then ground it. You should get full deflection each way. If not I think I would see the guy who worked on it.

I am at a loss as to how you got power to the gage with the key off ... have you taken any voltage readings at the gage connection with the battery connected?

Thanks for all the responses. I found a splice in the sendor wire behind the distributer that was loose. I haven't run the engine yet, but the gage moves when grouding the lead, and returns to the left when the key is shut off. I think I will quit trying to test stuff untill I get everything back together.

        Thanks again,

        George
