    C2 front coil springs

Is it worth getting the original style replacement springs when rebuilding the front suspension if I am considering haveing the car judged? I like the idea of a better ride with the so called touring springs VS original springs. Does anyone know if it actually is a better ride? Do they deduct points for springs other then original replacement? I have it all apart and am ready to reinstall.
    Thanks!

If you have a small-block car, the original springs are progressively-wound (coil spacing closer at the top than at the bottom), which is readily apparent when judging. I'm not aware of any aftermarket replacement springs that are progressively-wound; they're all constant-rate, with even coil spacing - the correct GM springs were discontinued a long time ago.

Unless your OEM springs are seriously corroded, there is no need to replace them. Just clean them up of the surface rust, thoroughly inspect and reinstall properly to get the ends seated in the pockets IAW the applicable AIM and shop manual.

The springs did not have any coating on them when new and picked up surface rust very quickly.

        Jim:

The best way to achieve a better ride is with modern radial tires. IF you have the correct coils in your car, and they are serviceable, then clean them and paint them "cast blast", and spend your money on a good set of 205-70R-15 radials. If you want to have your car judged, then buy the Goodyear bicycle tires, and remove them when the judging is through.
