    1973 Thermostat Housing - L-82

I need some help from fellow 73 L-82 owners. This past weekend I attended a great chapter event. One subject that caught me by surprise was a deduct on the Therm/housing. The new 73-74 Judging Manual states that 73-74 L-48 & L-82 use part number 336790 while the LS-4 uses 336773. I've owned my car for almost 20 years and have never changed this housing, and has a part number of 3672128. To complicate things further, I checked the original 1953-1973 GM parts book and found it calls for 350s to have PN 3877660 and the 454 to have PN 336790. Do me a favor, drop me a line regarding the PN stamped on the thermostadt housing on your car if you think it's original.Mine is a non A/C car. Many thanks, Tim

    Jeff----

First of all, if the outlet part number that you claim to have on your car is correct, it's not an original piece. 3672128 was NEVER an outlet used on a Corvette. If that part number ever did exist, it was probably from the 50s.

If the judging manual says that 73 small blocks originally used the GM #336790 thermostat housing, then I believe that the judging manual is wrong. The 336790 housing has one threaded fitting. This fitting is for the EGR temp switch used on 74+ models. Although 73s were equipped with EGR, as far as I know, they didn't use the temp switch. In my opinion, the 3877660 thermostat housing is correct for 73s. The 336790 was listed for a while as a SERVICE part for 73s(with a pipe plug for the threaded fitting), but I don't think they were ever used on the cars originally.

I could be wrong on this one as I'm operating mostly from memory, but I think I'm recollecting correctly.
