    1966 425 HP Camshaft

Can someone tell me the best replacement camshaft for the 425hp IP motor for a 66. I'm looking for the best maker that comes as close to the original spec's.
If possible part #'s would be nice and if there is a kit cam, lifters etc.
    Thanks in advance. Jerry 3179

You'll find Crane has a 'classic' line of cams ground to factory original specs. All you have to do is call out your original car/engine profile, and it's an off-the-shelf commodity.

Jerry - I went with the SpeedPro (TRW/Federal Mogul of late) blueprint, their part is CS165R. I forget the correct matching tappet from them, but it is the piddle valve style vs edge orifice if I recall correctly. I am just installing it in my rebuild now, and haven't degreed it in yet. I also know Crane offers a blueprint grind as well, and is in a cam/lifter kit offered through GM performance parts....you can get it for about $105 from gmpartsdirect.com or Scoggin-Dickey. I decided to stay with FM/SpeedPro due to good reputation and my own personal past experience with them....Craig

Jack - it's in the GM parts system too in the performance parts catalog. I opted for the FM brand (Speed-Pro) due to past good experience with TRW/FM parts, see my post below...Craig

Note; The crane blueprint cam has .020 more valve lift then the original did.
I used the perfect circle 229-1614 and it degree in at the GM originals specs.
