Stainless Steel Fuel Line

Hi - I just replaced the fuel lines on my 70 with stainless steel lines. Somewhere in the routing of the lines, the fuel line is pointing away from the engine rather than towards the fuel pump. The vent line is orientated in the proper position. Can stainless steel be heated to the point where it can be properly bent to face the fuel pump? Does stainless steel turn blue after it is heated and if so, can it be buffed back to the original luster? Any ideas would be appreciated.

The engine and fuel tank are out of the car now so there is no chance of an explosion.

you should be able to bend it with a tubing bender, available at Snap-on and most auto store. Why not send it back and get one with the correct configuration? good luck, mike

Lee - Give some thought to sending it back and NOT getting the S/S line...

Thanks Dennis and Mike but the fuel lines were not defective - it was me. Mistake and Lesson One was installing the lines with the body on the car. I know that it can be done because I did it but I could have removed the body much easier than snaking the fuel lines through areas that were not easily accessible. Mistake and Lesson Two was using stainless lines. I also did the brake line and it was very simple and worked great other than I stripped the threads on the brake proportioning valve. Oh well - stupid is what stupid does!!!
