    Part Numbers Old Cams

    I'm getting ready to go to Bloomington(St. Charles) and was digging through my box of old cams. I have four that I don't know what they are. Can someone help? The first is GM 32, 6930, E15. The second is GM 70, 6930, J14. The third is GM41 , 3836862, no date. The fourth is GM50, 3732798, J3. I'd appreciate any numbers Gurus ideas. Thanks Jerry

      GM casting #"6930" or "3896930"= GM #3896929. This is the widely used hydraulic lifter camshaft used from 1967 through 1980 on lower performance, hydraulic lifter applications. Corvette applications included 300 hp and L-48;

      GM casting #3836862= GM #3836860. This camshaft was used on very low horsepower 1962 283 cid applications;

      GM casting #3732798= GM #3733431. This camshaft was widely used on 283 and 327 hydraulic lifter applications during the 1958 to 1966 period. Most Corvette hydraulic lifter cams, except SHP, used this cam during these years. Basically, it was the predecessor to the GM #3896929.

        I'm always impressed with you guys' encylopedic knowledge of GM parts. Are these things worth anything or should I save the effort and not haul them to Bloomington to sell.

          Personally, I don't think that they're worth much of anything. To me, a used cam is something that I would not even consider using or buying. But, I suppose that there's always someone out there so hung up on "numbers" that they might "bite". The 283 low horsepower cam is definitely worthless. It was never used in a Corvette.

          If the other 3 cams were NOS, they might be very attractive to many folks.
