    C2 Air Conditioning retrofit

What is the downside of retrofiting A/C to my 63? Is there a source for parts that look like the RPO? I am aware of the Vintage Air products. Thanks

downsides...cost, resale value if not done properly, damage to car that would take a lot of money to repair, work may not yield adequate cooling, you will get picked on by NCRS types, 63 units are rare and hard to find if you go the OE route....I have been collecting C60 components for a mid year for some time...the only thing I can say is that the money that the RPO C60 option cost, considering all the specialty tooled parts was quite a value....if you ever laundry list what parts need to be gathered to put C60 exactly like the factory did it you would be amazed...heck even the hood release mounting bracket is diiferent!

In addition to the Board thread, I have recieved the following input:

      Re: C2 Air Conditioning retrofit

Doing a conversion so it's 100% correct and undetectable is possible, but go
figure it'll run you somewhere between $15-20K. Is it worth the effort? Most
conclude it's not, buy the add-on systems from Vintage Air, et. al. that
actually outperform factory stock C60, rob less HP from the power plant, and can
be removed with relative ease; take any judging deducts and ride in comfort.

      Re: C2 Air Conditioning retrofit

Tom, If your 63 is for your driving pleasure and you are not looking for all the
judging awards, go for the A/C. Chicago Corvette had the interior components on
Ebay a few weeks ago, as I recall the starting price was about $2200. The engine
compartment components were not included. The compressor, dryer, etc are not
that hard to find. I also saw a complete set-up at Carlisle last year, sorry,
      can't remember the price.

It will be expensive, but my 63 even with 250hp is too hot in the summer. If you
have a good running car that you trust to drive anywhere, then adding the air is
      a great idea.

      I appreciate all the input.

New question: If I decide to go the after market approach, is Vintage Air the best? Can it be removed with no damage to my vehicle? Does anyone have first hand experience installing an after market A/C unit on a C2? Thanks in advance.
