Ignition Switch for a 1965 vette

Hi Guys,
I hope someone has the answer to my problem. I purchased an
ignition switch which is supposed to be for a 1965 vette,
however my original key lock that goes into the switch will
not fit. The switch part number is Delco Remy 1116660, is
this for a 66 or later vette???

Floyd; 660 is for a 65, 686 is for a 66-67, 650 and 635 is for 63-64

Thanks John for the information.
So I guess I do have the correct ignition switch, now I am really baffled as to why my original key lock won't lock in it like it does with the aftermarket ones.

Floyd - Does your current switch have a number embossed on the case? Pete

Floyd - The switch mechanism of the 660 ignition switch had a semicircular cut out that the key core mate with or fits into. If the back of your current key core is other than that it will not engage the switch mechanism. The '66 and '67 ignition switches are different and have a long rectangular cut out for the key core to engage and operate the switch. Pete

John - Please note that the original '66 Corvette ignition switch was the 673 (1116673). The 686 which was the original ignition switch for the '67 Corvette is as you note the replacement for the '66 Corvette. Pete

Hi Pete,
Yes this switch has 660 embossed on it and it has a semicircular cut out at the very back of the switch as does my key assy. I have changed these things many times but this one has me wondering what I am doing wrong.
