Hi, I have read a number of recent tech threads about C-1 front spring height and I'm starting to get a little nervous. I am in the midst of a body off on my 56 and am getting ready for body drop (I know I've been saying that for 9 months - but I think it's getting close). I replaced all the front end components, including the springs. As expected, the front rubber suspension travel stops were bottomed out on the control arms after the front end work, but I thought the springs would compress a little when I put the engine in. At this stage, with the chassis setting on the tires and the complete engine and transmission installed, the springs are still fully extended. I can bounce on the front bumber tubes and get the springs to compress a little (I'm 195 lbs - ok 210). Does this sound right? Does the body, radiator, interior, etc add that much weight? I'd like to get this worked out prior to putting the body back on so I don't have to pull the front end apart from underneath the car. Any guidance would be appreciated. Maybe Bernie Myers could pull the body off his car to give me a good measurement? Thanks Steve

Re: 56 front spring height
I would look for a used set on E-Bay or reinstall your old ones.I can't see the body and parts lowering the front that much, and I think most owners use these new springs when it's not realy needed. I have just clean them up. restored many early vetts over the years and never seen a reason to replace them, even on mid-years.Find a good pair from some one that wonted to have a new pretty set.- Top

Re: 56 front spring height
Steve,
It seems to just be a crapshoot on front springs! I have bought front springs from the same vendor weeks apart and have gotten ones that had the right ride height and ones that were damn near on the upper bumpers.
