    frame shims

I am going to start body off restore 1967 convertible.I am going to change the frame due to rust.I already have a mint frame that is all done.I want to know how many body shims were determined.Did chevrolet use a templet? How do I start,3 or 4 per mount and add or remove to get the doors to fit right?

    Re: frame shims

    Hey Paul -

If the doors fit properly now, I recommend you cross-brace them with metal angles. Doing so will hold that dimension for you when you lift the body from the frame. I just completed a frame-off on my 1963, and I have several photos I can e-mail you on how I cross-braced the doors and lifted the body using a steel rig similar to the factory.

Search the archives on this subject. You'll find LOTS of prior discussion on how to determine 'correct' shim count given we lack the St. Louis final assy line frame tooling (e.g. 'GEO' machine, Etc.)....
