John, The repro tires are wider than OEM. Your problem is typical. As far as I know you either let some air out of the spare - or live with it.

dipstick: your post would indicate that your trial of liposuction didn't work to solve the fat tire syndrome. mike

thanks dennis, you would think if they go to the trouble of making a correct tire they would do it right. when i got my 62 about 6 years ago i looked in the well and it had a spare. well i didn't think much about it because the board fit fine and the rim was painted as the rest of them. i thought the tire was the original spare as it looked correct. well i just finished a 4 year resto on another 62 fi car and it came time for the tire board. i just happened to pick up 2 almost new repro tires 6.70x15'S. i mounted one up and put it in the car and said this doesn't look right. i told the customer i would look at my 62 and to find out what the deal was. well, the deal was i had a 14x4.5" 57 chev rim with a very old no name 7.70x14" tire. that is why my tire board fit. o-well, should have left well enough alone.

          John,
The story I got from Coker tire is that even though the tires are made from the same tooling, The originals were allowed to cool after molding while DOT requires tires made now to be inflated imediately after molding. This post molding inflation causes the tire to grow a little in width.
