    1960 Motor Mounts

The motor on my 60 hits the fan shroud when turning with any speed (lateral g's). Is this due to a defective mount or do I need to reshape the shroud? The mounts are about 15 years old and do not seem very tight in the mounting bolts. Who makes a quality rubber mount? Thanks

Bob, Along with checking the front motor mounts, might be worthwhile to confirm that the O.D. of your engine fan is correct. Is your car equipped with the standard 4 blade or optional clutch 5 blade? I would not start hammering on your shroud quite yet. Dennis

It is the five blade fan with clutch.

As best you can, measure max OD of the fan.

          Fan O.D.

I think I have found the problem. The fan blade is steel and the O. D. is 18 inches. No wonder it rubs on sharp turns. Thanks for the help, especially to Jack Humphrey.

            Re: Fan O.D.

Bob, Glad you discovered the problem. OEM fan is about 16 3/4" O.D. There is another fan out there which is identical in every way except it is 17 3/4". It sounds like that's the one you've got. If somehow you could remove 1/2" from the tip of each blade, you would have created the correct part and the rub would go away. Best, Dennis

I think the chain saw method would have worked better if I had removed the fan from the engine first. Dipstick
