    69 Battery for Flight Judging

If I use an AC Delco current style battery (not the repro type) how does this effect the originality for Flight Judging points? The judging manual is not very specific about this point.

    Thanks,

Re: 69 Battery for Flight Judging

On an 82 CE I had judged a number of years ago I lost 30 out of 40 orginality points using a current Delco battery, no points lost on condition.

I just had my 71 Top Flighted this month and lost no points (orginality or condition) using a reproduction Delco battery with correct caps and hoses.

There is a standard deduction for this item covered in the Judging Reference manual. It is a handy item to have in addition to the JG just for items like thism along with SS exhaust systems and other "common" issues

The JUDGING REFERENCE MANUAL that Bill Clupper refers to gives 50% credit to a current Delco battery. But caps and hoses are also on the same line of the judging sheet, and more is taken if these are not present.

Reba would a car get a few points with a current type Delco battery and just having the original battery caps and hoses in the battery box?

The present judging sheet gives 25 originality points to battery and caps. A current Delco loses 12 points (can't take 1/2 pt.). If the hoses and caps are lying in the compartment, no more points are taken. If not, other points are deducted. I usually take 2 more; other judges may do more or less.

Addendum to '69 Battery for Flight Judging

An interesting item here--I judged a car at the Bowling Green convention that had a Western Auto battery installed. However, in smaller letters there was a message "Made by Delco for Western Auto." After checking with the team leader, I found it got 50% credit also.
