    67 Carpet & Door Panels

I am restoring a white/blue interior 67 roadster. I have heard that the correct "bright Blue" carpet color is hard to find. Who makes the correct color and weave? I have also heard horror stories about todays repro door panels not fitting properly. Who makes the best fitting panels? My original panels are decent but yellowed from age. Is there an acceptable proccess to restore the originals?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jace,

Can't help you with the carpet issue but if your door panels are in great shape I would try to dye them and if your not satisfied you will not have invested that much and can then get some repo ones. About 5 years ago I purchased primer and dye from zip-corvette.com to do some interior pieces on my car and it worked out well and has not failed. I would suggest getting the dye in the quart size and use a commercial spray gun to apply for best results.

Auto Custom Carpets has one thats pretty good. Most suppliers think that it is supposed to be light blue like the seats, but it is much darker, like the lower windshield trim.

        Jace,

-----If your 67 doorpanels are not cracked at this stage of the game, there is a chance they are already not original. In my experience 67 doorpanels did not have quite the same quality as 65/66.They used to shrink around the armrest area frequently.Make sure by looking at the backside for an appropriate date to see if you actually have originals..........Bill S

          Bill,

Already done that. They are definately originals, both are dated and very stinky too. This car sat for over 20 years in a garage and has approx. 35k miles on it. I was the first to take these panels off. They both have a very small crack at the very end of the arm rest. Other than that they are just dirty, yellow and have some wear at the high points where the yellow plastic is showing through. I am going to have John Kennedy in Utah look at them to see what magic he can perform. Thanks for the concern.

            Wayne,

Thanks for the response and the tip. I am glad you said that because when I removed the rear carpet it is definately darker than the dash. Areas where there is little wear and had not faded are a darker blue. I have been warned that some of the carpets are too light blue.

            Thanks again,
            Jace

Interesting that you say yellow plastic is showing through the wear spots. Most people believe these to be a cast in color, but they were in fact dyed. They actually were a metalic color, which I assume couldnt be done in vinyl. I have seen them with different color base door panels, but many were saddle.

Jace, Just my two cents worth. When I did my 67 (Bright Blue - 414), I sent for samples from several vendors. Ask for all the colors of blue that they have for 67. I found that Auto mCustom Carpet Bright blue was way too dark, almost navy blue. Their Med blue was close to the correct color, but the carpet seemed too thin (thread count wasn't high enough). I settled on Bright Blue from Al Knoch. It was the correct color and a much better quality.
