GM Service Equivalent for a 1967 #3890490 Intake

Is there one? Those #3890490 intakes are hard to find without corrosion damage in the thermostat area. Is there a GM-produced modern equivalent? I know that sacrifices originality but just curious. Or dare I say it, an Edelbrock or the like!

Paul - did you check with David Crane at Cranes Corvettes, or with Michael at Americas Finest Corvettes (both in the San Diego area). Both have nice examples of west coast parts in great shape, I was able to obtain a near NOS 490 a few years ago from David. It is worth a shot. Another option is to bead the water outlet flange carefully, so you don't over bead the surrounding area, to get all the corrosion lifted down to the bare aluminum. Then, you can use JB Weld sparingly on the machined face, and carefully on the inset lip. By carefully filing with a fine cut flat bastard type file, you can obtain a very nice and solid smooth sealing surface that is durable and will never show when the theroustat housing is installed. I have done this a time or two, but, had great luck getting corrrosion free (or minimal) parts from the above suppliers....Craig

      Paul-----

There is no manifold currently available from GM which is configured the same as or, even, similar to the '490' manifold.

        Craig,
I have checked out David's site and the price is $375-475US. I will be quite honest, that is more than I wish to pay. I am sure his products are top-notch but....But thanks for the tip!

Thanks Joe. I thought so. I have just added a 1967 to accompany my 1979 and C2s are a new world for me.

Paul - enjoy your 67, you will find, as you already have, that the parts get costlier as the age increases. Your best bet at good deals and prices is to plan and go the places such as Corvettes at Carlisle and Bloomgington Gold...especially Carlisle. Keep an eye on Ebay, there have been a few good 490's there lately, in the upper 2200 to lower 300 range. You have to look for good pictures, and, ask the seller questions, but there are some reasonable deals occasionally, you just have to be dilligent and you will perservere!...Craig

Paul - here is one for you to watch...someone painted it but that will clean up. Since it has paint there is good chance nobody did anything too serious to the finish underneath, hard to say about the therostat flange but again is easily fixed with JB weld. Worth a watch...Craig

                Paul,

If you send a manifold to Jerry MacNeish, he can also repair the exact damage you are mentioning. I don't know the prices, but it may be worth it to buy one in great condition other than the thermostat area, and have it repaired as well as reskinned.

See his website for more details and photos.

                  Craig,
That one looks interesting! Would the stock 300hp carb fit on with no problems?

Thanks Patrick. A number of options are opening up for which I thank all respondents.

Jerry MacNeish (www.z28camaro.com) can weld and re-machine the thermostat area on an aluminum manifold back to new condition with no problem - he does it all the time. Check examples of his work on his website. If you have him "re-skin" it also, you won't be able to tell it from new.

                        Paul -

The 300hp and 350hp engines use the same carburetor (List 3810, P/N 3906631).
