    '58 T-10 shift linkage problem

Anyone out there know the secret to proper linkage adjustment? rebuilt transmission w/proper '58 shifter/linkage installed. Slips out of 4th and can't seem to find 2nd gear! although, it shifts beautifully when not running.Appreciate any advice.

Recheck the position of the neutrtal gate. The only common thread in these two problems is that they pull the top of the lever toward the rear of the car (and push the shift levers foreward) If the neutral position is not centered (instructions in the ST-12 manual) the shifter lever or the shift levers could be stopping on the shifter housing before the trans locks in place. Otherwise I'd look into the trans, rather than the shifter unless it shows gross looseness
