On my 1971 s/b auto, these are the two #'s I found on my carb, 7041208, 2284. The date code and year produced numbers don't seem to make sense. The GM part# 7041208 which according to Corvette by the #'s breaks down to, 70=prefix code (for 1965-1975); 4=decade produced (1970-1975); 1=year produced (1971); 2=model of carb (Quadrajet 4BBL Fed Standard); 0=division (0,1,2. used by chevrolet); 8=transmission (odd# manual, even# auto). This number seems to be correct for my car although according to the Tech Judging guide the number should be 7041212.
The next number 2284 which I assume is the date code breaks down to the 228th day 1974.
How can the GM part# show 1971 as the year produced yet the date code indicates 1974.
Is this a service replacement carb?
What kind of point deduct will I be looking at with this carb.
Thanks in advance for your help.
