    C1 Turn Signal Mechanism

The turn signals on my 62 are not cancelling. Removal of the steering wheel and cancelling mechanism revealed that all components are intact and appear to operate as designed but wear may be the culprit. The canceling pawls do not seem to reach far enough to touch the pins on the back side of the steering wheel hub. The upper steering shaft bearing is good and I don't have wheel wobble. Anyone have a solution?

The attachment boss for the turn signal handle is also wallowed out pretty badly. Has any one tried a helicoil or a pruduct such as JBWELD to fix this?

Finally, is the cancelling mechanism available from GM or as a reproduction from someone else?

    Thanks for your replies

    Bud,
"The Corvette Restorer" vol. 15, #4 has a good article by Joe Calcagno regarding repairing the '53-'62 signal switch. I would opt for the Heli-coil solution. Regards,

Most of the parts vendors carries reproduction cancelling mechanisms. Have you slid the cancelling mechanism hub all the way up to the steering wheel hub? Did you make sure that you had tightened the steering wheel nut tight enough to put the wheel hub in its proper position? I would be surprised if wear is the problem.
